Anthurium Humidity: Start by Checking the Root Ball

  • by

Brown leaf edges can lead an anthurium owner straight to a spray bottle. Before changing the humidity routine, check whether the plant is also too dry, too wet, cold or affected by pests.

Feel the growing medium below the surface and inspect the drainage. A humid room will not correct a root ball that remains saturated inside a decorative cover.

Look at the whole position

Consider light, nearby heating, air movement and temperature changes. A leaf touching cold glass experiences different conditions from one on the same plant facing into the room.

Avoid repeatedly wetting foliage as a substitute for understanding the problem. If you adjust humidity, choose a method suited to the room and plant, while keeping the foliage accessible for inspection.

Record whether the damage appears on old leaves only or also on new ones. Existing brown tissue will not turn into fresh green leaf. Judge the next leaves and whether the affected area stops expanding. If spots, pests or soft tissue are present, get a more specific diagnosis rather than treating every mark as a humidity problem.
