Dudleya care needs to follow the plant's growing cycle. Check its identity and root moisture rather than watering every succulent on the same schedule.
Follow the named Dudleya's cycle
Many dudleyas are adapted to cool-season growth and a drier summer rest. Keep the species label and use guidance suited to local cultivation. A tightening rosette and drying older leaves can differ from a soft spreading rot.
Keep roots and the crown draining
Use a suitable open medium and arrange planting so water does not remain trapped around the crown. A decorative surface layer cannot correct dense wet material below. Check actual moisture rather than judging only the leaf surface.
Handle pale leaves gently
Some species carry a natural powdery coating that marks easily. Avoid rubbing it away or repeatedly overhead-washing the rosette. Introduce sheltered plants to stronger exposure gradually and review excessive heat during the resting period.
Avoid forcing summer growth
Do not repeatedly soak a resting plant to keep every outer leaf plump. Species, root condition and local weather influence any summer watering decision. Extra fertilizer cannot replace an appropriate seasonal environment, and unnecessary repotting can damage sound roots.
