Thin-Snow Sedum Is Stretching: Judge the New Growth

A stretched sedum does not become compact again simply because the pot has been moved. The useful question is whether the growth produced after the change is closer and sturdier.

Check the plant's actual light exposure. A bright window seen from across the room may provide less light at the shelf where the pot stands. Increase exposure gradually if the plant has been kept in shade.

Do not use drought to chase a colour

Compact growth and pink colouring are not the same goal. Deliberately starving the plant of water to force a dramatic appearance makes it harder to judge its health.

Keep the growing medium free-draining and check it before watering. A shaded plant in wet compost needs attention to both its position and root conditions; simply adding fertiliser misses the problem.

Photograph a shoot tip when you change the position and compare it with later growth. Old bare sections may remain visible. Once the plant is growing well, you can decide whether to renew the planting with suitable cuttings rather than expecting every stretched stem to shrink back into shape.
